Healing the Trauma of Addiction

Begins 07/23/2020

All Tracks: Elective Course for all Certification Tracks

Prerequisite: None

Audience: All

Starr Commonwealth holds its Trauma & Resilience Conference annually, to ensure as many people as possible have access to the best tools and programs to bring about meaningful change in the children they serve.

This course was developed for practitioners to use with adolescents and adults who are struggling with substance abuse. Instead of asking what happened, it focuses on how to help these individuals regulate their emotions to sustain recovery. Learn the process of moving traumatized and addicted individuals between themes of trauma and feelings of connection, resilience and strength. Structured sessions integrate mind-body skills and expressive art activities that provide the individual with a platform to be an active participant in their healing.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the psychophysiology of trauma and addiction.
  • Name at least three ways stress and trauma influence changes in the central nervous system.
  • Identify the components of the core regulation network.
  • Demonstrate activities you can use with individuals to pendulate between trauma and resilience themes.

Included with enrollment:

  • Guidebook
  • CEs
  • Lunch
